Okanagan Hockey School is pleased to announce its coaching team for this summers camps in Nottingham and Swindon.

Heading up the team will be Canadian Jason O’Leary

Jason is a native of Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada), Jason played four years at St. Thomas University, obtaining two degrees during that span, and being named an Academic All-Canadian. Upon completion of his education, he officially retired from playing in 2002, turning his focus instead to coaching and teaching. With a diverse resume ranging from coaching, skill development with minor and Junior hockey players, he has developed a very unique approach to instruction that incorporates both practical and theoretical experience and application. Jason became involved in Hockey Canada’s High Performance Program with the U-16 and U-17 programs in Alberta and BC, where he served as Head Coach in each instance. Currently, Jason is completing his High-Performance certification with Hockey Canada, a proud partner of OHS. Jason is currently the Head Coach at Okanagan Hockey Academy Austria and has recently taken up the role as the National Team Head Coach for the U18 Austrian team. Click here

Peter Russell – Peter will be joining OHS this summer for the first time, Peter has played ice hockey at an elite level in Great Britain, he is a level 3 International Ice Hockey Federation coach. Over the past 10 years Peter has achieved an excellent record coaching at the junior, senior and National level. His senior professional coaching career has many highlights including being coach of the GB U18 and U20 World Gold medallists and English Premier Play Off Champions’, he has also received recognition as EPL ‘Coach of The Year’ in 2011. Peter has extensive experience of running and working in Development Camps, Hockey Schools and Skill Camps in UK, Europe & Canada.

Mike Urquhart – Mike has been coaching in Great Britain for over 31 years after coming across from Canada to be Player/coach of Nottingham Panthers.  Over the years he has been player/coach for numerous professional teams, which also include Cardiff Devils, Guildford Flames & Chelmsford Chieftains. For the last 16 years Mike has been heavily involved in coaching youth hockey, winning many National & League  titles at all ages from under 10 through to seniors.  Awarded 4 EIHA  ‘Best Youth Development Programme Awards’ with Guilford and Nottingham clubs.  Won Gold medals with GB U18 & U20 teams as well as Conference teams. Previously involved with the GB Women programme too. Mike is also a Level 3 coach and attends regular IIHF Coaching Seminars.

Ryan Aldridge – Ryan started his coaching career in 2006 with the Bracknell Bees where he led his team to Both EPL League Champions and Playoff Champions for the first time in Club history, After the success with the Bees Ryan coached in the UK Elite league with the Basingstoke Bison in 07/08 then returned to Swindon in 08/09 Coaching the Wildcats where he still remains. Ryan has coached with OHS since the summer of 2003 where he spent 3 summers in Penticton and has since continued to work for OHS in Denmark, Austria and the UK.

Jan Melichar – Jan is a well traveled Czech player starting out in his coaching career, Jan played 4 years in North America before returning home to play in his native land of the Czech Republic, Jan has been playing in the UK for the last 7 seasons and plays a big part in coaching of Swindon’s Junior and Junior Elite Program both on and off the ice. Jan has Spent the last 2 summers coaching for OHS Europe in Austria, Hungry and the UK.

Aaron Nell – Having attended the Okanagan Hockey Academy in his younger years, Aaron has gone from strength to strength by working his way through standards of hockey and ultimately reaching the highest level of playing in the UK with the Coventry Blaze. Aaron also holds coaching level 2 badges and is turning to the Okanagan Hockey School to help supply knowledge and teachings to attending players. Aaron has coached in the OHS since 2004 and has worked every year since throughout Penticton, Canada, Denmark, England & Austria.

Tom Murdy – Tom is one of the best young goalies in the UK with experience at the Elite level with the Coventry Blaze and EPL level with the Swindon Wildcats. Tom will be working with OHS for his second year and will also be working camps in St Polten Austria this summer as well as Nottingham and Swindon.

Summer Camp Information

Nottingham Main Camp 12th-17th August

We will be running two camps out of National Ice Centre in Nottingham. The first will be a main camp running for U10, U12 & U14 players. Our professional coaches will teach both players and netminders all aspects of hockey, ranging from the basic elements to the more in depth challenges that will help each player become all round better hockey players.

Nottingham Prep Camp 12th-16th August

The second of the two Nottingham camps will then run from the 12th-16th of April and look to accommodate U16 – U18 players. The prep camp is designed to prepare players for the approaching season with an intensive week of on and off ice training combined with a 5 game schedule. Players will be split into two teams and train separately throughout the day before competing in a game situation every night, 5 games in 5 days, 15.5 hours on ice.  Our professional coaches will teach both players and netminders all aspects of hockey, ranging from the basic elements to the more in depth challenges that will help each player become all round better hockey players.

Swindon Main Camp 20th-24th August

Finally OHS UK will be running a five day camp out of the Link Centre in Swindon that will focus on the age ranges  of U10 & 12, U12 & U14, U14,U16 & U18 players. This camp will not only help develop all players with their skills and knowledge, but also look to enhance their game through both on and off ice training. The camp will focus on each player individually and help each player develop and unlock further potential to their playing career. Our professional coaches will teach both players and netminders all aspects of hockey, ranging from the basic elements to the more in depth challenges that will help each player become all round better hockey players.
